SAI C-130M Herk "Plus"

Snow Aviation is working on several modifications to the C-130 family of aircraft which would increase their performance, reduce maintenance, and save on operational costs. The resultant aircraft, proposed as the C-130M Herk "Plus" would be able to perform more work for less cost and increased reliability. The Modern Technology Cockpit (MTC) is an advanced "glass" cockpit which eliminates the need for the flight engineer and navigator, while reducing the overall cockpit workload.

Features

Modern Technology Cockpit - The Modern Technology Cockpit is a digital, flat glass, computer integrated cockpit with six 6 inch by 8 inch Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCD). The MTC reduces the workload for the flight crew, allowing for the flight engineer and navigator positions to be eliminated. The electrical system included with the MTC will provide cleaner, more reliable electrical power.

Performance Enhancements - Numerous modification to increase the performance of the C-130, ranging from low drag antennas to a new powerplant installation that will take advantage of the AE2100S or Pratt & Whitney Canada PW-150A engine.

Fuselage Extension - The choice of a 5 foot or 12 foot fuselage extension option will allow increased cargo cubic capacity.

Enhanced Cargo Handling System (ECHS) - Flip over roller trays and fold down side locks make cargo handling system to flat floor conversions fast and easy for one person.

Wing Tip Fuel Tanks and Center Wing "Glove" Tank - These Fuel Carriage Enhancements allow for more fuel to be carried than the basic configuration while eliminating the current drag inducing wing pylon tanks.

Dual Mode In-flight Refueling Capability (not pictured above) - Provides the capability to be refueled either by USAF-type Boom, as used by the KC-135 and KC-10, or Drogue Basket, as used by the C-130's, U.S. Navy, and other countries.

Fuselage Section Beef-Up - The Aft Fuselage will be "Beefed-Up" to allow for the opening of the rear cargo door and ramp while in high speed flight.
